The 2019 Cutting Edge Concerts New Music Festival presents a program that unites diverse cultures, both real and fantastic. Philip Glass' "Annunciation" is based on an Eastern Orthodox Byzantine chant, and the concert will begin with the singing of the original chant, followed by a performance of the Glass work for piano and string quartet, featuring pianist Paul Barnes. Barnes will perform the NY premiere of Victoria Bond's "Simeron Kremata," also based on a Byzantine chant. A workshop performance of "The Adventures of Gulliver", an opera with music by Victoria Bond, libretto by Stephen Greco and design and direction by Doug Fitch, will change your perception of this hilarious and often vicious probe into human foibles.
As with all Cutting Edge Concerts, each composer will be present to discuss their works on stage with host Victoria Bond.
The 22nd annual Cutting Edge Concerts New Music Festival presents performances at Symphony Space on February 11, 18, and 25, 2019. www.cuttingedgeconcerts.org
