The performance features Irreversible Entanglements in a first-time collaboration with two AACM members: the legendary pianist/vocalist/improviser Amina Claudine Myers and the "furiously inventive" (Los Angeles Times) composer/flutist Nicole Mitchell, who has been hailed as "the most important jazz flutist of her generation" (Allaboutjazz.com). We shine a spotlight on Meyers, Mitchell and Irreversible Entanglements poet Camae Ayewa (a.k.a. Moor Mother) — three generations of Black women whose monumental contributions to the continuum of creative music has forever altered its pathways. Set one will feature solos, duos and trios between Meyers, Mitchell and Ayewa. In the second set, Irreversible Entanglements takes the stage, first as an instrumental quartet (alto saxophonist Keir Neuringer, trumpeter Aquiles Navarro, double bassist Luke Stewart and Tcheser Holmes on drums), and then together with Ayewa, Mitchell and Meyers for the world premiere of a new collaborative piece.
